My Neighbor Sky is Oguri's tribute to dance and inspiration that guides his work. This performance is a collaborative evening-length work.
Duo Dance:
Andrés Corchero (Barcelona, Spain); Studied theater, miming, circus and participated in various training courses with Odin Teatret, Shushaku and Dormu Dance, and performed as an actor in theater and circus productions. In 1986, he travelled to Tokyo to study with dancers Min Tanaka and Kazuo Ohno. At the end of 1986, he joined Mai-Juku and toured internationally. His own dance has been produced alone and together with poets, artists, musicians and choreographers. He has continued developing Min Tanaka’s Body Weather Laboratory, teaching dance on a regular basis.
Oguri (Los Angeles, USA); A native of Japan, participated in Tatsumi Hijikata’s Butoh workshop in 1984. In 1985, he joined the Mai-Juku dance group founded by the internationally noted dancer/choreographer Min Tanaka. For the following five years, Oguri toured internationally and was a founding member of Body Weather Farm where the group lived and hosted annual international arts/dance festivals. Described by Victoria Looseleaf of the Los Angeles Times as a “treasure,” Oguri has lived in Southern California for the past twenty years and is a recognized force in the community. He has been producing and creating dance with his partner Roxanne Steinberg who founded Body Weather Laboratory in Los Angeles.
